NDAA Trial Advocacy Academy - 101 Series - Analytical Advocacy

Do you ever wonder where to begin when you are handed a case file or what it means to develop an effective trial strategy?

Join us on March 19, 2024, at 2:00 pm ET, for the official launch of NDAA’s Trial Advocacy Academy – 101 Series, where we will start with a webinar focused on Analytical Advocacy.  NDAA’s Analytical Advocacy method provides a process through which prosecutors can develop an effective trial strategy and provides the tools to implement that strategy at every stage of their case. This webinar, led by three experienced prosecutors, will help attendees identify and develop case theory, case theme, and case strategy and will use real examples to demonstrate effective case presentation methods.

I am passionate about teaching analytical advocacy because I have seen the importance of it over the course of my career.  During the webinar I will discuss one of my own cases in which analytical advocacy made all the difference.  In 2021, Rashaud Lewis was charged with Murder and Kidnapping.  I became involved in the case as an on-call prosecutor well before the case was charged.  The investigation lasted two years and the evidence collected was voluminous, to say the least.  There was also a co-defendant charged in the case, which resulted in complex legal theories, such as accomplice liability and felony murder.

The first trial of Rashaud Lewis resulted in a hung jury.  In hindsight, I was overwhelmed by the amount of evidence and complexity of the legal theories, which impacted my development of a case theme and overall case presentation.  Following the hung jury, I went back to the drawing board and re-worked my case theory and strategy.  The second trial resulted in a guilty verdict in under two hours.  During the webinar, I will talk more about the Rashaud Lewis case and what tools I used to re-evaluate my case theory and strategy.

Prosecution is a career that takes dedication, perseverance, and heart. Some answers are learned through experience, but having a method and plan is a great first step.  No matter what kind of case you may be tackling, this presentation will offer you tips and suggestions as to how to best organize, develop, and present your case.  We look forward to seeing you on March 19th.
